Duplex Stainless Steel Seamless Pipe

Duplex Stainless Steel Seamless Pipe is an extremely resilient alloy suitable for many different applications. Constructed by combining austenitic and ferritic phases in roughly equal proportions, its microstructure boasts high mechanical strength at both room temperatures and elevated temperatures, weldability is good, stress corrosion cracking resistance excellent, cold forming is manageable with ease, making this an excellent material choice for process piping systems.

Duplex Stainless Steel's high tensile strength makes it more cost-effective than austenitic grades like 304 or 316 and makes it the go-to material for applications requiring high corrosion resistance from chloride salts, seawater or hydrochloric acid corrosion. Therefore, this alloy is frequently utilized in oil and gas pipelines, pressure vessels and storage tanks.

Duplex steels get their name from their dual microstructure, one of its key properties. Their increased ductility outshines austenitic stainless steels while being more corrosion resistant than ferritic alloys. Most duplex alloys use 50/50 ratio of austenite-ferrite metals whereas certain commercial alloys may feature higher or lower percentages of austenite or ferrite components respectively.

Titan offers an expansive line of Duplex Stainless Steel Piping Systems, used in various process applications. Common applications for Duplex include reactors, columns, towers and storage tanks used in sulfuric acid processing as well as shell and tube heat exchangers in producing urea or other fertilizers.

This economical method of producing duplex stainless steel seamless pipe with high productivity and yield through plug mill production, without creating cracks during working steps. Attaining this goal requires the correct combination of steel composition and working conditions when creating billets and hollow pieces for pipe production. Particularly, the piercing step, cross rolling step, reeling step and outer diameter reducing step are performed at elevated temperatures to limit equivalent strains in the hollow piece during these processes. Additionally, this steel does not contain Ca or B which are detrimental to forming hollow pieces, and so those produced using this invention can be rolled continuously without experiencing problems or having cracks develop - representing an impressive improvement on traditional technology.
