How Does Wholesale Stainless Steel Ep Pipe Resist Corrosion?
Wholesale Stainless Steel Ep Pipe
Compared to iron or standard carbon steels, stainless steel doesn't corrode readily due to its unique blend of alloys that protect it from environmental threats. Though corrosion still occasionally occurs under certain environmental conditions, its severity depends on which grade of stainless steel it is and can depend on such elements as chromium, nickel, titanium, aluminum copper nitrogen selenium content present within it.
Chrome found in all grades of stainless steel reacts with oxygen environments to form a layer of nonreactive chromium oxide on its surface, which acts like an effective barrier that protects and shields it. If damaged, or removed altogether, this layer regenerates quickly due to chromium's non-reactive nature.
However, in environments with high saline or heavy salinity levels (such as marine environments or outdoor furniture), the protective chromium layer will degrade over time, necessitating higher corrosion resistant grades of stainless steel such as Grade 316 with two to three percent molybdenum content that provide better resistance against chlorides.
304 stainless steel is an ideal material choice for plumbing, food equipment and general chemical applications as it resists corrosion from most oxidizing acids. Furthermore, this grade boasts excellent ductility and weldability while being easy to sanitize - all qualities which make it popular choice in building decor and site furnishings.
